Nav, creator of the Conjuction Tutorial Flash game, has made a new tool for LOTRO crafters! Read his guest article here, now!
The idea for the calculator came when I was trying to craft a weapon and realized that I needed some elven ingots, or something similar I can’t exactly remember what the name was.. Anyway, it meant I had to go out and collect a whole bunch of stuff like ore and refine it. I then wondered whether a tool existed where it would just tell me all the components I need in one page, rather than me having to switch toons and seeing which components are required for an item.. which as we all know can be a time consuming effort.
After searching through what is available on the Internet, I couldn’t find anything that did what I wanted. There are crafting calculators out there but they are not up to date or they only contain information relevant to a few professions, such as cooking and farming. I also did not want to download an application to my PC, mainly because if there is an update I will have to re-download it. So began my quest for a web-based crafting calculator which shows all the items you need and their sub items.
This calculator is still in its initial stages, I have lots to do in terms of features and functionality. For the most part it does what I need it to do, which is tell me what I need and how much will it all cost me. The problem with the calculator though is it does not factor in chance… so if you were making some sort of crop from farming for example, it will not be able to tell you how many crops you will get since this is random. What it does in that situation is assume that you will always get 1 crop for every field, which I think is reasonable to estimate a cost. Farming is the only profession which might not work too well with this, but all the other professions should be alright.
Since I am still new to web development and have not really done it before it will take me some time to get new features in but I will try and update the recipes and items when ever they release updates. I am doing this in my free time so I wouldn’t expect major updates to be done over night.
Make sure to check the ‘Status’ page, as not everything has been added yet.
